Celebrate Bangladesh’s Independence Day with Freedom Fighter Dr. Nuran Nabi

What: Dr. Nuran Nabi, a Councilman from Plainsboro Township in New Jersey and author of "Bullets of ’71-A Freedom Fighter’s Story," a biographical account of the valiant struggle for Bangladesh’s independence, will speak. Shrejoni Shanskretik Samsad was founded in 2008 with the purpose of promoting Bangladesh’s rich culture locally and abroad will follow with traditional music and dance from Bangladesh.

Spring into JCAL!

Now is the time to register for Saturdays workshops at the Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning. Tap, cartooning, guitar and martial arts are just a few of the many children's workshops offered. Parents get to have fun too. JCAL's convenient new schedule lets you enjoy a variety of classes while waiting for your child. You can register for a 6-week or 12-week session in the spring semester. 6 week Saturday sessions run from March 10 through April 21. 12 week Saturday sessions run from March 10 through June 9. Registration runs from February 18th through March 24th -- Tuesday through Thursday, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Saturday, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Camp G.O.A.L.S. for Girls

Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum and the Motorola Solutions Foundation present a new Camp G.O.A.L.S. for Girls 2012 Summer Program! What do the Intrepid Museum, Girls and Science have in common? Camp G.O.A.L.S. (Greater Opportunities Advancing Leadership and Science) for Girls is an application-based free six-week summer camp for current 8th ant 9th grade girls from NYC public schools. Ringling Brothers kick-off “Kids Week”

What: Ringling Brothers will kick off the annual “Kids Week” celebration at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Performers will dazzle audiences with their daring and unique routines that also teach children about scientific principles including gravity, balance and momentum. Kids can also enjoy the Circus Zone – where they can learn to juggle and spin plates – throughout the day. “Kids Week” runs from February 18 – February 26, is open daily from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM and offers a week full of fun and engaging educational programs while students are out of class during Presidents’ Week. “Kids Week” activities are free with the price of admission to the museum.

Learn Bachata with a FREE glass of wine

Bachata is one of the easiest Latin dances to learn.  There are only 3 steps... how easy is that! You will learn a ton of different turn patterns that will have you looking like a pro on the dance floor... okay, maybe not a pro, but you'll look like you know what your doing :)

Nicolas Jaar (“From Scratch”)

What: Musician Nicolas Jarr will give a special performance with collaborators Will Epstein, Dave Harrington and Sasha Spielberg, presented by MoMA PS1, Pitchfork, and Clown & Sunset Aesthetics (CSA).
The five-hour, continuous piece will combine recording, sampling, and looping techniques with analogue instrumentation and sound-derived video from CSA's resident filmmaker Ryan Staake as well as a movement piece from Lizzie Fiedelson LIVE in the MoMA PS1 Performance Dome.
