Pedestrians are advised to enter the viewing area from the West side of Columbus Avenue at 79th Street 
The balloon inflation can be viewed by pedestrians on 81st and 77th streets from Central Park West to Columbus Avenue. This year marks the 86th annual parade. Kermit the Frog, Hello Kitty, Spider-Man, Spongebob Squarepants and more will all be among the giant balloons of the parade.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Parade
The Macy's Thanksgiving Parade has a new route for 2012 and is going to be the longest one ever - 2.5 miles! Join thousands of people and many a floating character for what will be a few hours of joyous fun!


Formation for the parade begins at 8 a.m. at the following locations:

The parade will kick off early Thursday at 77th and Central Park West as usual. It will head down along CPW to Columbus Circle, before making a left and heading along Central Park South to 6th Avenue. Once at 6th Avenue, the parade will continue south until 34th Street, where it will make a right and head to Macy’s at Herald Square.

A Celebration in Honor of Bangladeshi Author Humayun Ahmed

What: Humayun Ahmed was a Bangladeshi writer who portrayed his countrymen, particularly the middle class, in simple, unostentatious language and with spellbinding intimacy. This program will include discussions about the author’s life, a documentary, dance, musical interpretations, and drama.

New York Police Department Request For Donations

What: The Community Affairs Bureau of the New York City Police Department is seeking donations for those still in need of help after Superstorm Sandy. They are seeking donations of the following items (or similar):

Food Items - canned goods; non-perishable food items; individual snacks (chips, cookies, fruit snacks, granola bars, pudding); canned milk; bottled water.
Non-Food Items - paper products (facial tissue, toilet paper, paper towels); baby care products (diapers, formula, wipes); trash bags; aluminum foil, plastic wrap and sandwich bags; cleaning products (bleach, sponges, dishwashing liquid); bath and bedroom items (towels, sheets and pillow cases); personal care products (deodorant, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, conditioner; feminine hygiene products); flash lights, batteries and backpacks.
Clothing Items - all types of clothing for all ages and genders, particularly clothing for the approaching colder weather.

Store owners, or other large businesses interested in bulk donations should contact the above number to coordinate logistics. These supplies, while collected in Queens, will be distributed to all affected areas citywide. At this time please do not bring donations to your local police facility, while much appreciated we need to ensure an efficient rapid distribution. Right now this central location is the most effective method as we continually adjust to the shifting conditions. Uniformed NYPD Community Affairs officers in marked vehicles will be present in the parking lot to accept these much needed donations. New York Sports Club 
New York Sports Club announced today that it’s opening its doors free of charge to anyone who needs to shower, charge their cell phone, or blow off steam with a stress-relieving run on the treadmill. (We recommend all three.)

The clubs will be open to the public (local residents 18 and older with photo ID) from today, October 31, until November 14.
