Museums for Less

This weekend starts the beginning of a promotion for cardholders called Museums on Us, sponsored by Bank of America. This allows any card member to have free entrance to hundreds of museums around the country the first weekend every month.
This weekend marks the first weekend of the month, so enjoy free admission to the Bronx Zoo, New York Aquarium, Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum and the Whitney Museum.
The Bank of America card will also allow you to get into the Metropolitan Museum of Art for free, but since this is a “suggested” admission museum, it isn’t too much of a discount.

Spring Handmade Cavalcade

Mother’s Day is around the corner and most of you like me don’t have a clue what to get for the most important women in our lives; flowers, cards, and jewelry, how about something unique? We or most of us, are familiar with Etsy, Made it Myself and 1000 Markets. But if you are like me, I like to see touch and feel what I am going to purchase, especially if it is vintage or upcycle items.

This past weekend we attended the The Spring Handmade Cavalcade presented by The {NewNew} and I got my mother this beautiful Bingo clock from New York Clocks . There were other amazing crafters as well. One in particular that caught my eye, was a display of tier trays constructed from leftover china. If you miss it, don’t! Because the Brooklyn Lyceum Spring Craft & Food Market is this coming Saturday and Sunday, May 1 + 2, 11am to 7pm @ 227 4th Avenue in Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY  11215, between Union and President Streets and Crafts in Chelsea Saturday May 8, 2010, 10am – 5pm @ 21st street between 8-9 Avenues, NYC are coming; and those are two more chances for you to get mom that unique gift.

Not Yo' Mama's Craft Fair

3Scribbles has scribbled feelings about this craft fair. Not Yo' Mama's Craft Fair took place at Parlay Studios, 161 2nd St. Downtown Jersey City on April 17, 2010. Let me start off by their lack of information on their site. No where on the site did they mention anything about an entry fee or that the first 100 people receive a free swag bag! When I got there, the ladies in the front desk demanded a $5 donation entry fee per person! Let it be clear that a donation is not mandatory. right?

Once inside, the studio was filled with over 60 vendors/tables and lots of "crafty" people ready to shop! Some of my favorites were: LaVieve LLC, Weber's Art Studio, Overdue Industries, KIVA, JamesJohn Lip Balm, Billy John Moore Photography, Bag The Habit, Fluffy Goodness and Studio Llama Llama, just to name a few. Sorry if I missed those of you whom I spoke to, I'll be in the look out though. ;)

DKNY Advertises In Yankee Stadium

Since the DKNY billboard was dismantled in SoHo, the iconic logo featuring the NY skyline seemed to have been looking for a new homebase—and to the chagrin of fashion people everywhere, home appears to be homeplate. DKNY has inked a sponsorship deal with the New York Yankees and is planning on plastering their brand around Yankee Stadium. Now, all five fashion people who attend baseball games will get the chance to take in the suited splendor in the form of a bullpen billboard, a DKNY-branded Dugout Lounge, and special DKNY footage. But if this is the chance to persuade the stadium set to pick up a 2-piece suit instead of a t-shirt and cutoffs every once in a while, we say "Play Ball!" (WWD)

NYC Scout

I recently came across a film scout locator blog in NYC. As the blogger points out, New Yorkers usually rush past many great sites and treasures in the city. So, this scout has documented these places for all of us to see, and compiled interesting articles to read, in a New York minute, of course. ;)
