Macy's Thanksgiving Parade Balloon Inflation

What: Taking place in the afternoon and evening before Thanksgiving Day, at the Macy's Parade balloon inflation you'll get a preview of the larger-than-life characters in the next day's parade. 

Tips for Going to the Parade Balloon Inflation
The earlier you arrive, the less crowded it will be. No backpacks will be allowed. Central Park West will be shut down starting at noon.

Pick a good spot. There is a designated viewing path for observers. The path for the balloon inflation winds around the American Museum of Natural History, beginning at 79th and Columbus and travels along Columbus Avenue, 77th Street, Central Park South, and exits at 81st Street.

Consider taking public transit to the balloon inflation. Crowds will make parking nearby nearly impossible and access to the area will be difficult for taxis. The subway trains serving the balloon inflation area are B or C to 81st Street/Museum of Natural History.

Keep your kids close. If you're visiting with young children, keep a close eye on them.

Nostalgia Train
Catch the Holiday Nostalgia Train on Sunday, November 26th, December 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th! In celebration of the one year anniversary of the Second Avenue Subway, this year’s Holiday Nostalgia Train will run along the F line between 2nd Av and Lexington Avenue / 63rd Street and via the Q line between Lexington Avenue / 63rd Street and 96th Street on the Upper East Side.

The Holiday Nostalgia Train departs from the 2nd Av subway station on the F line at 10am, 12pm, 2pm, and 4pm and from the 96th Street subway station on the Q line at 11am, 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm.

The special eight-car subway train of R1-9 cars from the 1930s is complete with rattan seats, ceiling fans, incandescent bulb lighting, drop-sash style windows, vintage roll signs, and original advertisements.

Nostalgia Buses
Selections from the Museum’s vintage fleet of buses will also be in service on the M42 route Monday, December 4th – Friday, December 22nd from 9am to 5pm.

Note: Equipment is subject to change. Vintage train and bus service is weather permitting.

Louis Vuitton Presents “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez #NYCVVV

What: The Unexpected Journey At The Heart Of Louis Vuitton 

Curated by Olivier Saillard, the exhibition retraces the adventure of the House of Louis Vuitton from 1854 to the present. A story told through the portraits of its founders, as well as those who today are inventing the Louis Vuitton of tomorrow.

This historic journey, designed by Robert Carsen, is divided into ten chapters, one of which is entirely devoted to the United States of America and New York City. The tour opens with the most symbolic object of the House: the trunk, a model fashioned with contemporary flair, embodying the iconic hallmarks and bold spirit of Louis Vuitton. The exhibition features objects and documents from the Louis Vuitton heritage archives, as well as select articles on loan from the Palais Galliera and the Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris. The exhibition concludes with a display devoted to the savoir-faire of the artisans in the Louis Vuitton workshops.

Sea of Light: An Interactive Journey Through Light and Sound

What: To mark the launch of a three-month installation with the awesome Symmetry Labs - a San Francisco based interactive light art collective known for unique collaborations at Burning Man, Superbowl Village, Panorama Music Festival, and Refinery 29's 29 Rooms - we'll be throwing a party on our opening night, 12//05 - that's set to light up even the coldest of December nights. 

Featuring a first look at the installation, live music (acts to be announced shortly), endless photo opportunities, and food and drink from some of NYC's most coveted artisans - this is a celebration that's not to be missed.

Tickets are free but will go fast, so be sure to reserve your spot. Everyone who attends will take away swag including a branded blanket (to keep you warm this winter) and a Xyloband (so you can be a part of the light show).

And as if that's not enough, we'll be giving away free mulled wine and hot chocolate throughout the night.

The Met presents: Edvard Munch: Between the Clock and the Bed #MetMunch

What: Norwegian artist Edvard Munch (1863–1944) attained fame early in his career for his depictions of human anxiety. Throughout his career, Munch regularly revisited subjects from his earlier years, exploring them with renewed inspiration and intensity over time. Self-Portrait: Between the Clock and the Bed (1940–43) was one of his final such works and it serves as a lens to reassess Munch's oeuvre.

This exhibition features 43 of the artist's landmark compositions created over a span of six decades, including 16 self-portraits and works that have never before been seen in the United States. More than half of the works on view were part of Munch's personal collection and remained with him throughout his life.
