New York Botanical Haunted Pumpkin Garden

What: Experience the thrills and chills of the season with a garden full of intricately carved pumpkin sculptures, bugs, bats, parties, and parades. On October 20–21, watch master carver Ray Villafane of Food Network fame transform humongous pumpkins into zombies and other unearthly creatures.

- Sort seeds, dissect an owl pellet, and explore the Children’s Adventure Garden
- Pot-up buckwheat seeds to bring home and grow
- Put on your own performance in the Pumpkin Puppet Theater

Pumpkin Carving Demonstrations
October 6, 7, 8, 13, 27, and 28; 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Watch how the pumpkin creations are carved in the Pumpkin Carver’s Studio in the Global Greenhouse, where expert carvers translate their ideas into art. Learn some tips for you to try at home.

Spooktacular Pumpkin Party
October 6, 7, and 8; 12-5:30 p.m. (Columbus Day Weekend)
Get into the Halloween spirit with live music, spooky story readings, pumpkin parades, and more! Come face-to-face with the largest bat in the world, the Gigantic Flying Fox of Malaysia, and more batty fun. Also enjoy samples provided by Whole Foods Market® and daily performances of Little People® Live!, including meet and greets with favorite characters. Full details.

Giant Pumpkin Carving Weekend
October 20 and 21; on display through October 31
Giant pumpkins from around the world once again arrive at the Garden. Watch master carver Ray Villafane transform these pumpkins into zombies and other unearthly creatures. Carvers Alfred Paredes and Andy Bergholtz will also be on hand to create amazing sculpted 3-D and glowing works of art.

MasterCard® Budding Masters Pumpkin Carving Workshop for Kids
October 20
During an exclusive Priceless® Budding Masters workshop, kids ages 8 – 15 will have a chance to be a part of a team that creates a very special giant pumpkin masterpiece. Inspired by master carver Ray Villafane's work, and carved under the tutelage of the Haunted Pumpkin Garden creative director, Michael Natiello, this one-of-a-kind creation will become part of the Haunted Pumpkin Garden exhibition, which will be admired by thousands of visitors. Spooky Nighttime Adventures
October 20, 21, 26, 27, and 28; 6:30-8 p.m.
Grab a Con Edison flashlight and explore the sculptures as you trick-or-treat in the Adventure Garden after dark. Listen for critters of the night, dig around for decomposers, and decorate gourds too. All activities are designed for kids ages 5 – 12, but are sure to be enjoyed by ''kids at heart,'' too!
