48TH ANNIVERSARY - HOLIDAYTUBAS


What:
TUBACHRISTMAS was conceived in 1974 by Harvey Phillips as a tribute to his teacher and mentor William J. Bell, born on Christmas Day, 1902. Through the legendary William J. Bell we reflect on our heritage and honor all great artists/teachers whose legacy has given us high performance standards. The first TUBACHRISTMAS was conducted by Paul Lavalle in New York City's Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink on Sunday, December 22, 1974. Traditional Christmas music performed at the first TUBACHRISTMAS was arranged by American composer Alec Wilder who ironically died on Christmas Eve, 1980.  He was a loyal supporter of every effort to improve the literature and public image of our chosen instruments. Through Alec Wilder we express our respect and gratitude to all composers who continue to embrace our instruments with their compositions and contribute to the ever growing solo and ensemble repertoire for tuba and euphonium.

NOTE: IMPORTANT COVID PROTOCOLS: All participants must show proof of full Covid-19 vaccination. Full vaccination is defined as 14 days after the final dose (1 dose of J&J or 2 doses of Pfizer or Moderna). Proof of vaccination and ID must be shown at the top of the loading ramp before you will be permitted to enter the rehearsal/registration site.

ATTENTION All AUDIENCE members and PERFORMERS: Please use gig bag, leave case at home, in your car or bus. Wear warm, (outside concert) bright festive clothing. Bring folding music stand/lyre and wind clips/clothes pins. Participant registration fee is $10.00

    Winter Holiday Skating Celebration and Tree Lighting


    What:
    Join us for a performance of dancing on ice by the ITNY Ensemble and with the participation of The Skyliners and Figure Skating in Harlem's synchronized skating groups, the Sky Rink All Stars, Junior apprentices and a guest performer TBD. At the end of the event Santa makes an appearance and we light up the tree.

    When: Saturday, December 11th @4:00 PM

    Lower East Side Gets its First Annual Holiday Parade

    What:
    This holiday season, an annual tradition is beginning for the Lower East Side. A local holiday parade complete with vintage fire truck.

    The Pacemakers, New York’s senior-citizen’s dance team, in partnership with the NYPD and the FDNY Foundation, are producing this inaugural event. It’ll feature Santa, Mrs. Claus, a Chanukah celebrant, and a Kwanzaa celebrant stop the vintage vehicle, plus another two dozen holiday characters dancing in the street and doling chocolate Chanukah gelt and candy canes.

    “Celebrating my beloved Lower East Side is such an honor,” says Susan Avery, founder of the New York Pacemakers, and third-generation Lower East Sider. “Our diverse, immigrant, working-class community deserves its moment to party with Santa and his friends.”

    The fire truck is “Engine 2,” courtesy of the Fort Pitt station on the Lower East Side.

    Nordstrom Santa’s Snow Show


    What:
    Santa and his elves returned to take up residency at Nordstrom throughout the holiday season. Customers are invited to participate in the daily “Santa Snow Show” with the jolly Saint Nick and a magical in-store snowfall happening at 2:00pm and 6:00pm. 

    As Santa mingles with shoppers, he is followed by the lively Brooklyn United Music and Arts Program drumline, through all 7 floors and out onto Broadway. 

    Additionally, children can drop off a handwritten letter in a dedicated mailbox and receive a personalized response from Santa himself!

    ART LOOP MARKET ( Artist Holiday Market )


    What: The "Art Loop Market" is an annual Artist Holiday Market that features some of NYC's local & International artists from all trades. We will feature Muralist, Painters, Sculptures, Digital NFT artists, Photography (Film/Digital), Videography, Projection Video mapping, and a variety of gifts you can get for the holidays.
