What: Destroy your worries and bad memories of 2013 and start fresh in 2014!
Good Riddance day is open to the public to discard any unpleasant,
embarrassing and downright depressing memories from 2013. Have a picture
of an old flame, mortgage documents, old tax records or a pile of
medical bills?
For this annual New Year’s tradition, Cintas will
provide one of its mobile shredding trucks in Times Square for
participants to watch the physical evidence of their funny, outlandish
and forgettable memories of 2013 get permanently discarded. The public
can also write their bad memories on-site to be shredded. A rubber
mallet will be available for items that require smashing.
An iPad will be awarded to the participant with the most intriguing “good riddance” story. Only participants who come the day of will be eligible for the prize.
Can't make it to Times Square? Memories of crazy ex-bosses,
over-exposed celebrities, corrupt politicians, fashion disasters and
ill-fated romances can be submitted here or tweet at @TimesSquareNYC and tell us what you want to say #goodriddance to.
Good Riddance Day is inspired by a Latin American tradition in which
New Year’s revelers stuffed dolls with objects representing bad memories
before setting them on fire.
