What: The
York College Chamber Music Series is pleased to present L'April
Concertante. Hailed by the New York Times as a “flash of beauty and
inspiration”, Dr. April Lynn James is a lyric mezzo-soprano with a PhD
in Music from Harvard University. Her exhibit for the Loeb Music
Library, In Her Own Hand: Operas Composed by Women 1625–1913, was the
first in an American library on this subject. She specializes in
18th-century music, and spent a year in Germany, courtesy of a DAAD
Annual Grant, researching the music and life of Maria Antonia, Electress
of Saxony. In addition to the article in the Times, articles
featuring her have appeared in
the New York Daily News, Time Out New York and other publications.
