Japan's New Year's Day Celebration: Oshogatsu

What: Celebrate Japan’s New Year’s holiday at Japan Society’s annual Oshogatsu event and join us for many traditional New Year’s activities. Families and children can watch live taiko drumming and accompanying lion dancing (shishi-mai), followed by a brief taiko session (taiko performances will begin at 2 pm and 3 pm.)  Enjoy rice pounding (mochi-tsuki), calligraphy (kakizome), kite(tako)-making, a funny face game (fukuwarai) and top spinning (koma-mawashi). Recommended for all ages.

Tickets: For festival and one (1) taiko drumming session (session I or session II): $15/$8 Japan Society members; children ages 2 or under free.
